Review – The Black Book of ColoursThe Black Book of Colours by Menena Cottin, Rosana Faria (illustrator)
Published by Walker Books on 2008
Genres: Picture Book
Format: Hardcover
Source: Personal book collection

The Black Book of Colours by Menena Cottin and illustrated by Rosana Faria (translated by Elisa Amalfi) (Walker Books, 2008) is one of my favourite picture books. Each double page spread includes text in white on a black background, with text also in Braille and illustrations raised on the page as contrasting matte and gloss black on black.

This book has fascinated every child and adult I’ve shown it to. A fantastic way to help children gain some understanding of visual impairment as well as introducing them to the Braille alphabet (included at the end of the book).

No matter how many times I’ve read this book, it is always a wonderful experience to revisit this story and marvel once again at the creative way it explores the theme of colour.
