Miss Understood by Kat Apel and Beau Wylie (Scholastic Australia, 2022) shares a new perspective on the classic tale of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf.
As always, Kat Apel’s rhyming text has a wonderful rhythm, making it ideal for reading aloud. I love all the wolf and pig-related puns and references, and the illustrations complement the story perfectly with lots of amusing details.
The book works brilliantly as a fun story for young children, but it also lends itself to a deeper message of the damage that can be done by spreading rumours and half-truths. An entertaining retelling of a classic fairytale.
